Earlier this week, I had a chance encounter with Hung Lee, the London based curator behind Recruiting Brainfood. During his visit to Singapore, we grabbed a drink by the quayside and discussed some fascinating topics reshaping modern recruitment:

1️⃣ HR Tech and AI’s Impact:
In today’s cost-conscious environment, CEOs are pushing to accelerate the pace of AI adoption.

Emerging AI tools have the potential to revolutionize recruitment by automating tasks such as CV/resume review and candidate selection, which could reduce bias, speed up hiring, and enhance candidate experience. Future Agentic AI brings potential to source, engage, and stay in touch with talent.

However, as myself and Hung discussed, many talent acquisition leaders are finding it challenging to keep up with this pace due to hurdles like tool integration, data security, compliance, and maintaining a positive candidate experience with increased tech. Additionally, the broader challenge of managing bandwidth and dealing with overwhelm is hindering progress.

2️⃣ Evolving Roles:
We had an open conversation about the ‘elephant in the room’. As AI transforms recruitment, talent acquisition professionals need to proactively build digital and AI literacy to remain relevant and effectively work with AI tools. Over time, some may need to reskill and pivot to adjacent career paths.

These challenges and shifts aren’t unique to recruitment teams – many industries face similar challenges in AI implementation, adoption, upskilling, and reskilling. There isn’t a one-size-fits-all playbook, and everyone is figuring out their path.
